Performance upgrade Mercedes-Benz S 580 W223

580 PS from the V8 (+77 PS) on production hardware with vehicle-specific Lambda‑GT calibration

From 503 to 580 PS. Power as a reserve.

Lambda‑GT develops the S 580 from 503 to 580 PS on its production hardware.

The figure stated is the output of the combustion engine; the EQ Boost of the 48-volt system is not included. One of the largest gains in the Exclusive Performance programme comes, of all places, from the most comfortable base. In the S-Class, the M 176 is deliberately calibrated with restraint, because smoothness, fuel consumption and longevity take priority – which leaves considerable calibration potential. Lambda‑GT presents further stages under Performance packages.

At the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz S 580
Power delivery

77 PS more – unobtrusive in everyday driving, instantly there when overtaking.

An AMG runs close to its design point from the factory; a luxury saloon deliberately runs well below it.

The factory calibration prioritises even torque delivery and low noise; boost pressure and torque request remain conservative. Lambda‑GT uses this gap within the thermal and mechanical limits of the production hardware. Part load stays refined, and the additional power is laid out as a reserve – instantly available on the motorway and when overtaking.

Calibration

Individual Calibration: tailored to the specific S 580.

Over the production life of the W223, software versions, emissions variants and equipment have changed several times.

Before calibration, model year, software version, emissions variant and the configuration of the 48-volt system of the specific vehicle are read out and taken into account – based on the data version of the engine control unit (Bosch MG1CP003).

Protective functions

The S 580's standard protective functions are not deactivated for the additional power.

Knock control, exhaust gas temperature monitoring, component protection and limp-home strategies remain part of the engine management.

The greater the gain, the more important the functions that limit it. The calibration is designed so that the factory limits continue to apply.

Data status & release

Developed, tested and documented – for the S 580.

Lambda‑GT develops a coordinated calibration base for the W223 and adapts it to the data version of the specific S 580.

Changes are developed against defined targets for performance, driveability and thermal behaviour, verified by measurement and documented. On the S 580, acoustic and vibrational unobtrusiveness is a separate target.

Engineering Validation

The calibration is not released after a single power run.

After calibration, Lambda‑GT tests the S 580 under defined conditions: acceptance drive, power measurement, cold start, part load, steady cruising and repeated load runs.

The assessment covers not only the power achieved, but also whether the car remains as refined as before in everyday driving.

Dyno Verified

580 PS are measured on the specific vehicle – not taken from a data sheet.

Every S 580 calibrated by Lambda‑GT is measured on the in-house dyno after calibration.

The customer receives the certificate for their vehicle – proof that the target was achieved on the car itself.

Enquiry

580 PS for the Mercedes-Benz S 580 – individually calibrated, validated and measured on the dyno.

The Lambda‑GT calibration for the W223 combines the performance upgrade on production hardware with vehicle-specific calibration, technical validation and documented power measurement.

The calibration can also be extended with further functions – such as adjustments to start-up and idle behaviour or defined sound functions. In the S-Class, Lambda‑GT deliberately keeps such functions discreet. Examples can be found under Real vehicle projects and Personalised vehicle configurations.
